Treaty and Aboriginal Rights Research (TARR) Department
The Treaty and Aboriginal Rights Research department has played a significant role in supporting member Nations in protecting and advocating for their Treaty rights.
Treaty and Aboriginal Rights Research (TARR) is a nationally recognized department that has helped negotiate significant rights claims against federal and provincial entities. This department assists First Nations with their claims, including land claims that have already gone through, or, for example, trespasses.
Treaty 8 TARR is one of four claims research units in British Columbia. British Columbia First Nations have the most specific claims against Canada. Our clients are not just Treaty 8 First Nations; we provide claims research and archival support to other nations in British Columbia and Alberta.
TARR has an extensive archive that includes documents recording the history of the area and past actions by federal representatives, as well as comprehensive records in generations of communities and family members. This archive is stored securely in our offices.
